Working in the remote mountain villages of northern India, the indigenous women of Himalayan Naari are revitalizing local woolen crafts by combining their traditional stitches with modern designs.
Local women learn to knit as children and continue knitting as a way to clothe their families. Their hands are always busy - knitting while they walk or passing time waiting for their children at school.
Partnering with Himalayan Education Foundation, they have turned their talents into a business to support their families.

Himalayan Women: How Mothers Built a Business in the Mountains
The story of the women of Chaukori — 25 mothers who came to the mountains for their children, and built something of their own along the way.
In Chaukori, Uttarakhand, 67 artisans are building livelihoods through craft. What began with 25 mothers who moved to Chaukori so their children could attend school has grown into a women's craft cooperative — hand-knitting wool pieces and naturally dyeing yarn at 2,010 metres in the Kumaon Himalayas.

The women of Naari create beautiful handmade products by combining traditional techniques and natural materials with modern designs. The artisans' knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation is now being shared with the world.
